About Forest Bathing Aotearoa

What is Forest Bathing?

Forest Bathing/ Forest Therapy is a Westernized approach to the traditional Japanese practice of shinrin yoku. Forest bathing is about slowing down and providing nature immersion to improve overall health and well-being. 

Guided Walks

The crux of what we offer are guided forest immersions. Our guides are certified by the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides, and our guided walks are designed to improve physical, social, and psychological well-being and foster a deeper nature connection. 

Not Just a Walk in the Park

While we encourage everyone to spend as much time on their own in nature, walking as much as they like, our guided walks are comprehensive experiences aimed at slowing down our guests and immersing them-- physically and psychologically-- in the natural environment and fostering a connection with self, others, and nature. We invite you to try a guided forest therapy walk for yourself. 

The Health Benefits of Forest Bathing/ Forest Therapy

Physiological Well-Being

Shinrin yoku has been studied extensively for its beneficial physical effects. A guided forest bathing/ forest therapy walk can promote cardiovascular health, boost the immune system, and promote the cancer fighting white blood cells, NK cells. Trees and plants emit chemicals known as phytoncides which promote overall health when we breathe them and have them on our skin. We literally bathe ourselves in the health-promoting phytoncides when we forest bathe.

Psychological Calmness

Forest bathing and forest therapy have been shown to reduce stress chemicals in the body, slow the pulse and blood pressure, and evoke a sense of calm. Guided forest walks can help with symptoms of ADHD, depression, anxiety, anger, and PTSD. It improves sleep, boosts energy and vitality, and even increases sensory awareness and connection. Relaxes an overworked brain and fosters healthier aging, and has been shown to increase self-esteem, empathy, kindness, and compassion.

Nature Connection

Tune in to the world of nature around you. Forest bathing increases awareness of the Beyond-Human world-- from plants to fungi to insects to a feeling of connection to something greater. Regardless of your own personal beliefs, forest bathing has been shown to increase feelings of awe, wonder, and gratitude and instill a love of nature and an ecological mindset. Geoff Handsfield is a scientist and a certified forest therapy guide through the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy. He has decades of outdoor experience and pivoted to forest therapy in 2021 to lead guided walks aimed at slowing down and improving health, well-being, and mood. Though the walks are at a slow pace and set in accessible settings, Geoff is also certified in wilderness first aid, so you will be in safe hands.

Private Bookings

I take private bookings for groups large and small. Please get in touch to plan your private walk.

1.5 Hour Guided Forest Therapy Walk

$250 for up to 4 people. $20 per person extra beyond 4 people.

2 Hour Guided Forest Therapy Walk

$300 for up to 4 people. $20 per person extra beyond 4 people.

3 Hour Guided Forest Therapy Walk

$400 for up to 4 people. $20 per person extra beyond 4 people.

Corporate Bookings for Team Building and Wellness

Please get in touch for pricing for corporate team building. I will work with you to create a specific nature immersive walk for your team to come together and enjoy wellness and team connection.


Non-Private Bookings

Non-private bookings are for anyone who wants to try forest bathing and doesn't mind mixing it up with others from the community. I book non-private walks periodically. You just need to sign up and meet at the muster location. Your guide and the forest will do the rest.

1.5 Hour Guided Forest Bathing Walk

$40 per person.

2 Hour Guided Forest Bathing Walk

$50 per person.

Koha Community Walks

I book community walks occasionally where anyone can join in on a koha basis. Please get in touch if you have a community group who you think would benefit from forest bathing.


Environmental and Community Groups

Please get in touch if you work with environmental or community groups and would like to offer a guided forest bathing walk as part of an event. I will work with you to share forest bathing with environmentally minded organisations big and small.


Gift Vouchers

Give the gift of nature connection. I charge $50 pp for non-private walk vouchers, or list price for private walks. Please get in touch to order and to make sure that I will be available to guide a walk when your recipient will be looking to schedule one.
